Master's Degree in Surgery in Implant Dentistry

The Master in Surgery of Implant Dentistry has a theoretical-practical approach aimed at providing students with adequate learning about the problems of surgical extraction and the subsequent phases of implant-prosthetic rehabilitation.

Students will be involved in modern implantology, from diagnosis to prosthetic rehabilitation, and will have the opportunity to come into contact with the latest surgical techniques and technologies.

The programme Scientific Director is Prof. Giovanni Battista Menchini Fabris.

The programme main partners are the Cochin Implant Center in India directed by Prof. Jaibin George and Savina Dental Clinic in Malta directed by Dr. Joseph Xuereb.

The programme is delivered in partnership with Università Telematica Pegaso (https://www.unipegaso.it/aree-master), member of the Multiversity S.p.A., a leading player in the education sector in Italy which also includes other two distinguished digital universities: Universitas Mercatorum and San Raffaele Telematic University of Rome.

N.B. Kindly be informed that this programme is undergoing accreditation from the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA).

The didactic programme aims at providing basic theoretical and methodological knowledge by conveying lectures and practical laboratory activities.

The teaching modality will be blended: a mixed mode approach to education that combines on-campus lessons (20%) and distance learning (80%).

The programme is organised through four teaching sessions in which the lesson topics will be teached by the lecturers in a gradual and complementary manner.

Students will initially have the opportunity to delve deeper into the basic subjects applied to oral implantology and subsequently through the appropriate exercises they will be able to develop the application phase of diagnostic radiology to complete guided planning.

In order to be admitted to the Master’s programme, it is compulsory to hold at least one of the following degrees title:

  • Master’s Degree in “Dentistry and Dental Prosthesis” or other equivalent qualification pegged to the EQF level 7.

  • Master’s Degree in “Medicine and Surgery” or other equivalent qualification pegged to the EQF level 7.

  • Academic Master Degrees obtained abroad and equivalent in duration and content to those listed above.

More specifically, candidates applying for this Master programme must hold a licence entitling them to practice Dentistry in their own Countries and hold the corresponding academic university degree.

Students should be proficient in English or Italian, and in possession of at least a C1 level.

The programme is aimed at graduates in Dentistry, Dental Prosthetics, Medicine and Surgery, who intend to deepen their skills in the field of Implantology, acquiring specific skills in the field of Surgery of Implant Dentistry.

MED.E.A. 's traineeships are an integral part of the student academic curriculum, and are provided as practical activities of the academic record relevant to the completion of the study course. Traineeships may be mandatory or recognized as processes through which students may gain exemptions of credits. The number of credits gained for curricular traineeships is stated in the Standard Study Plans.

Acknowledgement of the Traineeship Activity

Upon completion of the traineeship, students are required to submit to the competent office the following documentation:
  • Application for recognition of the traineeship activities and relevant ECTS gained;

  • Certificate of Traineeship undertaken, to be sent on letterhead, signed and stamped by the company tutor;

  • Brief report on the activity undertaken during the traineeship hours, signed and stamped by the company tutor.
